Promo code-based offers are a versatile tool for restaurant operators looking to engage customers in new and dynamic ways. By allowing customers to redeem promo codes without needing a loyalty account*, you can reach a broader audience and provide a seamless experience for first-time guests or those who prefer not to sign up for a loyalty program. Promo codes can be distributed across various channels, including email, social media, or in-store promotions, making them a flexible option for driving traffic and boosting sales. This guide will walk you through creating a promo code and attaching it to an offer.

Creating a Promo Code
- Sign in to the Incentivio admin portal and navigate to Marketing > Promo Codes.
- Click + New Promo Code.
- Enter the Promo Code Title (internal title) and the Promo Code. The text entered in the Promo Code field will be the actual promo code guests must enter to receive this offer.
Please note: Promo codes are case-sensitive. If they are created in all capital letters, guests must enter them in all capital letters. It is possible to create and attach multiple promo codes to an offer to account for different cases.
- While there are other fields on this screen (such as Short Description and Long Description), they are all optional and do not have to be completed. Click Save.
Once saved, this promo code can now be attached to a communication. Promo codes do not have any value without being connected to an offer, so it is necessary to create a separate message, offer, or loyalty offer for guests to receive after they enter the promo code.
Attaching a Promo Code to an Offer
Two fields must be configured appropriately to support creating a promo code-based communication. They are:
- Distribution Mode - For the Distribution Mode, it should be set to Activity > Check In.
- Targeting Rules - The Targeting Rule should be set to Promo Code > [select the previously created promo code].
To attach multiple promo codes to a single offer, be sure to set the Logical Operator to OR.
Redeeming a Promo Code
On Mobile Apps
Guests can redeem a promo code on their mobile app in two places: under the More menu > Enter Code or by selecting + Add Promo Code at checkout.
On Web Ordering
Similar to mobile apps, guests can redeem a promo code on web orders in two places: under My Account > Enter Code or by selecting + Add Promo Code at checkout.
Regardless of where they enter the promo code, guests have the option to redeem this offer now or save it for later. After the code has been entered, it will be saved to the guest's account, and they just have to select Apply Available Offers at checkout to redeem it (rather than entering it again).
