Overview
Incentivio supports sending a configured charge as part of the delivery tip amount to external delivery services (Uber Direct, DoorDash Drive, Shipday, etc.).
This allows brands to enforce a driver gratuity or included service fee that is treated as a tip when the order is dispatched to the delivery provider.
This is not a POS tip configuration, it is controlled by how the charge is named.
How It Works
Any charge that contains an asterisk (*) in the charge title will be added to the delivery tip amount reported to the third-party delivery service.
Example
*Driver Tip *Delivery Gratuity Service Fee *Driver
The asterisk can appear anywhere in the charge name.
When an order is submitted:
- The selected checkout tip +
- Any charge with
*in the name
are combined and sent as the delivery tip amount.
Supported Integrations
This behavior applies to third-party delivery requests sent through:
- Uber Direct
- DoorDash Drive
- Shipday
(Note: Original implementation referenced DoorDash only, but the same logic applies to newer integrations.)
Configuration Steps
Step 1: Create or Update the Charge
Add an asterisk (*) to the charge title.
Important:
For brands using external price calculation (Toast, Revel, Qu, etc.), the charge name comes from the POS.
The * should be present on the POS charge name so it is reflected on the Incentivio order total.
Best practice:
- Include
*on both Incentivio and POS charge names when possible.
Step 2: Ensure Charge Exists on the Order
The charge must appear on the Incentivio order total.
If the charge is present on the order and includes *, it will be added to the delivery tip automatically.
Step 3: Test with a Delivery Order
Place a test order and confirm:
- Delivery request submits successfully
- Delivery provider receives expected tip amount
- Reporting behavior aligns with POS setup
Payment & Reporting Behavior
- Funds still flow to the POS/location payment account.
- The delivery provider bills the client for the driver tip amount.
- POS reporting may vary depending on integration.
