Scan to Pay enables clients to accept payments in-store using a QR code on a guest's app linked to their saved payment methods. This helps to promote guest engagement with the app, creating a seamless experience between in-app and in-store purchasing. It also removes the need for employees to link the guest's loyalty account separately, streamlining in-store processes and enabling quicker service times.
This article discusses the in-store process of paying for a transaction using Scan to Pay.
- After adding all items to the customer's order, select Pay.
- On the right-hand side, select Other.
- On the Select Alternate Payment Types screen, select Scan to Pay.
- Instruct the customer to hit Pay on their app to pull up the QR code, if they have not already done so. If they have multiple saved payment methods, they can scroll between them to select which they would like to use.
On this screen, guests can select a tip amount (if enabled) and any applicable offers they wish to apply to this transaction. - Scan the QR code on the customer's app using either an external scanner or a built-in camera.
- Once the QR code has been scanned, the Payment Complete screen will display, along with the prompt to start a new order.
Good to Know
- Guests can select an offer to apply directly from their app before scanning their QR code. If they do not apply an offer this way and would like to, you can follow the standard loyalty lookup process to attach their account and apply any available offers. Here is a guide that walks through this process: Toast POS - Loyalty Lookup
- If using the in-store tip flow instead of in-app tip flow, please be aware that the tip selected in-store will process as a separate transaction, and will incur an additional swipe fee from your payment processor. Using the in-app tip flow will process the tip as a single transaction, resulting in a single swipe fee.
