To create a new message, log into the admin portal and click 'Messages' under the 'Marketing' heading.
You can click 'New Message' to create a message for distribution to your customers or you can click the dropdown menu to create a new message template or create a message from a previously created template. You can also click the icons under 'Actions' to edit or delete an existing template.
The items below in the 'What' section control the type of message you want to send and any text or images in the message.
- Program & Campaign: Programs and Campaigns are organizational tools that help users maintain marketing communications. All messages, offers, loyalty offers, and surveys must live within a Program and a Campaign.
- Message Title: This is the title of the specific message for identification only; this is not displayed to guest.
-
Message Type: This is the type of message being sent out to the guest. You can choose from one of the options below.
- Private: This is used for messages that you don't want to be shareable by recipients.
- Shareable: When the user receives this message, the "Share" button will be displayed in the app allowing it to be sent to others.
- Referral: Users will see the "Share" button on the mobile apps, and a customized referral code will be included when they share the Message. This code will allow Incentivio to track new users when they sign up.
- Survey: You can use this message to send out a survey, but you will make sure you have created the survey to attach the message.
To adjust the text and images for the message, click 'Add Display Content.
- Language: You can choose either English, French, Spanish, or German. This is the language that will be displayed in the message for the guest. To send the message out in multiple languages, you can create the same message but with a different language chosen for each version of the message.
- Display Title: This is the subject line of the message that is sent to the users.
- Short Description/Long Description: This is the message shown in the body of the message sent to the users.
- Small Image/Medium Image: These are the images shown in the users inbox and the body of the message. Small Photos need to have a 1:1 aspect ratio and 25:14 for Medium Images. They should also be kept to under 50kb and exported as either “.png” or “.jpg/.jpeg” files before uploading.
Once you've added all of the display content, click 'Add'.
If you selected “Shareable” or “Referral” for your Message Type, there will be additional fields in the display content pop-up (7).
- These fields will be used to specify what you want to get posted when an app user shares the message on social media.
- You can see how each of the fields below shows up on a Facebook post to get a better idea of how they are used (7). For a more detailed description of how to set a referral campaign, see Appendix A*
“WHEN” SECTION
- First select a Distribution Mode. You will notice when you select “Activity”, a new drop down will appear beneath it called “Activity Names” where you will select which Activity you plan on triggering the distribution of this Message. Also the “Push” option in Channels will also disappear. This is because a push notification would never be used if the user is already in the app!*
- In the Channel section you will select whether you want this Message distributed only to the inbox of the app, to the user’s email, or as a push notification. Push notifications will show up on the lock screen of the phone and are very good for quickly getting the attention of your customers. We suggest using no more than 2 or 3 push notification a month*
- Redistribution Mode allows you to control whether you want the message to only ever get distributed to each eligible user once (Single Lifetime), any time they are eligible and don’t already have the Message (Single Active), or any time they meet the targeting criteria to become eligible (Multiple).
- Distribution Count allows you to specify how many total instances of this Message you want to get distributed. If you want this to be unlimited, put a very high number in this field just like the screenshot below.
- Time Zone, Start Date, End Date, Days of Week and Time Slots are all ways to control when the Message is distributed at a more granular level. If you need additional information on any of these fields, hover your mouse over the tool tip (the “i” icon) and the information there should clear up anything you are still curious about regarding the field*
“WHO” SECTION
- First choose between Persona and Custom Rule. Personas can be created in a different page of the Marketing section and are a saved set of targeting rules.
- If you select Custom Rule you will have the option of “And” or “Or” for the Logical Operator field. “And” means the customer will have to meet all the targeting rules that you add below in order to receive the message and “Or” means they will only have to meet one. If there will only be one rule, this field essentially does not matter.
- There is an explanation of each targeting rule in Appendix B below.
APPENDICES
A – SETTING UP A REFERRAL MESSAGE:
This section will walk you through how to set up a campaign that allows users to share a message from the app on social media so that their friends can sign up with their code. You can incentivize rewards for both the customer who shares the Message and the customer who signs up with the code.
- The first step to setting up a Referral campaign is creating the in-app message that customers will be able to share to social media. In the “What” section, for Message Type select “Referral”.
- Click “Add Display Content”. When you go to add your display content you will want to mostly take advantage of the “Share Title” and “Share Sentence” fields.
- For the “Share Title”, try to get the point of the campaign across quickly and easily with something along the lines of “Sign up for the new ABC Restaurant app and a free XYZ!”
- For the “Share Sentence” field, type [#CODE#] wherever you want the customer’s unique code to show up. For instance, you could write “Download the ABC Restaurant app and when you sign up, use my code – [#CODE#] to get a free soft drink with your first order!”. This will ensure that where you wrote “[#CODE#]”, an auto-generated unique code will be placed there when the customer shares the Message.
- Refer to the Targeting rules section below and use “Referral” and “Referral Signup” to get an idea of how to create the offers that will be distributed to both the customer who shares and Message and the customer who signs up with the code.
