What is a Beacon?
Beacons are small bluetooth devices which allow Incentivio to determine if a user who has your app downloaded and is signed in then send them a communication. Communications include Messages, Offers and Loyalty Offers set up in the Incentivio platform.
Please note, the performance of Beacons can depend on specific location tracking and privacy settings on user devices. For example, if a user does not have Location Services enabled for their app, they may not receive a communication triggered by a Beacon.
What kind of beacon should I use?
We have tested with the GIMBAL Series 21 Beacon, however, most Bluetooth Beacons should work as well.
How do I configure a Beacon in Incentivio?
Create a Beacon
Under Setup > Beacon, check if you have a beacon configured. If you do not already see a Beacon, please contact support@incentivio.com to configure this for you.
Create a Category
Once you have a Beacon in Incentivio, you need to connect Incentivio to the Beacon device.
Select "+ New Category", add any title and description, then select the Beacon Name shown under BEACONS:
Add iBeacon Configuration to your Beacon
The following steps may vary depending on the device. Below steps are specific to the GIMBAL Series 21 Device.
On the Beacon's device set up
1. Create an iBeacon configuration for the Beacon
The Proximity UUID corresponds to the first part of the Beacon ID in Incentivio.
Example:
- Incentivio Beacon ID: 4eb7ecbc-162f-4135-a09b-546c5ccac451:1:1
- Proximity UUID: 4eb7ecbc-162f-4135-a09b-546c5ccac451
The Major and Minor (or Max and Min) will both be 1, corresponding to the second and third part of the Incentivio Beacon ID.
Add this configuration to your Beacon Device and, if needed, update the device to apply the configuration.
How do I set up a communication to send using a Beacon?
Start by creating a new communication. I have created a message for the below example.
If you need a description of any of the settings, hover your mouse over the icon next to the setting name for details.
Fill in the initial settings as you would any other message (or offer/loyalty offer) and add the display content.
You will create this as Activity based communication. The Activity Name will be Check In. Choose the Channel, Redistribution Mode and Dates this will send.
Select the Check In targeting rule. The Type will be Category and then select the Beacon Category you created earlier. Click Add
Save your communication.
Once saved, when users come in range of the beacon, the activity will trigger the communication to send.
