Creating Toast Discounts (External IDs)

When creating an offer or loyalty offer in Incentivio, a matching discount must be created in Toast to ensure that the POS system recognizes this discount for reporting and price calculation. This guide will provide an outline of how to create a discount in Toast and connect it to your Incentivio offer or loyalty offer.

How to create a discount in Toast

1. Log into the Toast Portal, go to the appropriate client & location and click the Discounts link within the Payments section.

 

2. Click the + Add a Discount button. We generally name the Discounts "Incentivio - " to easily differentiate these discounts from your in-store discounts.
   
   
3. Create a name for your discount, and select the Target and Owner location/restaurant group for your discount. (Note: We generally recommend prefixing all Incentivio discounts with either "Incentivio - " or "App - " to differentiate from other discounts in Toast.) Note: Not all users will have the Target/Owner fields; if your discount does not include this section, proceed to the next step.
   
4. For most discounts, you can select either Fixed $ Off or Fixed % Off, depending on whether you are offering a set dollar amount or percentage. Please note: Combo discounts are not supported, and Toast's "Buy One, Get One" discount is not compatible with creating a BOGO discount in Incentivio. 5. Enter the value of your discount (either dollar amount or percentage).
6. Select whether this discount applies to an Any item or the Entire check. We do not recommend using the Specific item/group option, as it can create conflicts between Toast and Incentivio. Rather, you can specify which items are applicable in Incentivio to target specific items/groups.
   
   Please note: If you target an item/product in Incentivio, the Toast discount must also apply to "Any item". It will cause your customers to receive an error if there is a mismatch between these fields in Incentivio and Toast.
7. Under Advanced Settings, select Manager under Permissions Level to ensure this discount is not available at the POS for any employee to apply.
   
8. Save and Publish these changes in Toast.
   
9. From the Toast URL, copy the discount GUID (all numbers and letters after the last slash). This will be the External ID that you will put into your Incentivio discount.
   

How to attach a discount in Incentivio

1. In Incentivio, paste the discount GUID into the Value field. If the discount applies to all locations, select All:
   
   If this discount only applies to select locations, select Per Store and paste the discount GUID only next to the locations where this discount will be applicable:
   
2. Save the discount.
